Childrens Charity, India
by Priti Rathod, Cranfield University
Six months in the UK, and I still can’t believe how much I’ve adapted. I miss my family, friends and home in India every day, but I’ve learned to embrace change. Life back home was chaotic and full of engagement, here I push myself to stay involved, fight loneliness and navigate the emotional rollercoaster of being away. Some days are overwhelming, but I remind myself this is part of the journey.
Leaving home to pursue my MSc in Finance at Cranfield University has been challenging but transformative. The course is rigorous and deeply practical, covering areas like corporate finance, valuation, financial markets, and risk management. We have written exams at the end of each term, and preparing for them means long nights of studying, countless hours in the library, and intense group discussions. Group study sessions have become a lifeline, breaking down complex financial models, debating case studies and supporting each other through the pressure. Alongside exams, we handle multiple assignments and real-world projects, pushing our analytical and problem-solving skills to the limit.
One of my biggest hurdles was presenting in a professional setting for the first time, nervous, trembling, heart racing. But I’ve come a long way, from hesitating to raise my hand in class to speaking in front of an audience.
Much of my confidence comes from the OSCAR Foundation, where volunteering and community work taught me resilience and adaptability. These lessons push me to step beyond my comfort zone, build connections and grow with each challenge.
The girl who once went blank in front of a crowd now speaks, not perfectly, but boldly. Growth is messy and uncomfortable, but confidence builds with every shaky step. To anyone feeling too small to take up space – keep going. You’ll surprise yourself.
Despite the distance, I remain deeply connected to my roots, determined to use my education to create meaningful change. I give my best every day, academically and in life, knowing that each step forward shapes the future I strive for.
