Childrens Charity, India
Through OSCAR’s Enabling Change project, we have taken another significant step forward to breaking barriers for children with hearing impairments. Recently OSCAR has provided a further eight children from low-income communities with hearing aids, allowing them to experience sound, some for the very first time.
For these children, hearing has always been a challenge, making communication and learning difficult. But the Enabling Change Programme has marked a turning point. With their new hearing aids, they can now hear their parents’ voices, engage with their surroundings and begin developing speech, opening the door of possibilities.
A particularly touching moment was when our ASHA (‘Hope’ in Hindi) project sponsors, the Dhillon family witnessed the children’s first reactions to sound. The smiles, wide eyes and sheer joy on their faces were unforgettable. For some, it was the first time they heard their own names being called. Moments like these remind us why this work is so important.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our supporters. Your contributions are not just providing hearing aids; they are giving children the ability and hope to communicate, learn and build a brighter future.
But our work doesn’t stop here. There are still many children waiting for this life-changing support. We are committed to reaching more families, ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to hear, learn and thrive. UK donors can DONATE HERE, US donors via GlobalGiving click here. Together, we are creating a world where disability does not define a child’s future.
We are deeply grateful to the Dhillon family for founding the ASHA programme. The passing of Kuldhip Dhillon in 2023 was an immeasurable loss, but his legacy lives on through the children he supported at the Helen Keller School and other schools. Take a moment to watch this inspiring video of Rizwan, an OSCAR/ASHA beneficiary whose life has been transformed by receiving hearing aids.
“Mumbai once felt intimidating, but thanks to Ashok, Sunita and Lucinda, I’ve found a family at the OSCAR Foundation and the ASHA children.
On our latest visit, three generations, my mother, husband, our children, and I played football with the kids, heard Ashok’s inspiring story and visited the Helen Keller Institute. There, we reunited with our sponsored children and witnessed six more receive hearing aids, an unforgettable, life-changing moment.
I’m proud to continue the sponsorship my parents, Kuldhip and Jacqueline began and want my children to be part of this incredible community.
The children’s joy and resilience were humbling, a lesson we’ll carry home to England.
Thank you for welcoming us into your world.” Sanjit Vallance
