Childrens Charity, India

There’s no better way to start a Saturday morning than with good food, great company and a steaming cup of chai! That’s exactly how the OSCAR Foundation’s recent ‘Girls’ Career Workshop’ began. Over breakfast, the girls chatted, laughed and bonded before diving into a day full of inspiration, learning and a few questionable dance moves (mine included!).
The workshop, led by the amazing Netra and Supriya, brought together 30 girls of different ages, all buzzing with curiosity about their futures. Supriya kicked things off with an energetic icebreaker dance that got everyone moving, though some of us may need a little more practice before our big Bollywood debut!
Our guest speaker, a career guidance counsellor from Tata, gave some golden advice: put yourself first, list your skills and passions and use them to shape your career path. He reminded the girls to look up to inspiring female role models, like Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo, as proof that Indian women can and do lead at the very top.
The session then moved into goal setting, where the girls mapped out their dreams, milestones and the steps needed to get there. They also learned about ‘satellite careers’ and how a love for sports, for example, could lead to jobs in sports psychology, physiotherapy, or media, not just coaching.
Questions flew as the girls shared their ambitions as a fashion designer, air hostess, radiologist and more. Each one proving that the future is full of possibilities.
To wrap up, Ashok Rathod shared an inspiring message about the organisation’s commitment to supporting every girl’s ambition. His words reminded everyone that no dream is too big when you have the right support behind you. Before heading home, the girls wrote down what they had learned and their own career goals. The workshop was a great success, fuelled by confidence, encouragement and (let’s not forget) some truly delicious chai.
